FA Cup and Trophy
The draws for the FA competitions have thrown up a mixed bag. In the FA Cup  First Qualifying Round on Saturday 12 September the visitors to Nethermoor from the north east will be either  South Shields or Newcastle Benfield or Whitley Bay or Dunston UTS

The FA Trophy sees the Lions travel to Unibond Division One opposition at either Cammell Laird or Stamford in the First Qualifying Round on Saturday 17 October.

Ground Redevelopment Latest
The redevelopment of Nethermoor is coming on in leaps and bounds as the steel framework for the new stand is currently being erected. The stand will seat just over three hundred and disability provision is included in the design. With a much steeper rake and no supporting columns to restrict sight lines  the new structure will provide a far better viewpoint than the stand it replaces. The posts for the perimeter fence at the Railway End are also being sited ready to accept the concrete infill's.

Bob Jeffray has also contributed some images of the new floodlights when they were first switched on. Although the lights are much brighter than the old lamps the efficiency of the technology means that they produce much less light pollution whilst consuming a lot less power than which should help reduce the clubs energy bill. Leeds United Pull Out of Friendly
Club Statement
It is with much regret that, due to circumstances beyond our control, GAFC has to announce the cancellation of their prestigious fixture with Leeds United on the 3rd of August.

Even at this very late stage work is in progress to find an alternative fixture in order to mitigate the effect this disappointing turn of events will have on the club’s projected revenue.

Scarborough Fixture

Scarborough friendly is definitely off due to the logistics of getting  the Reserve squad to Scarborough for a midweek match. GAFC were originally approached by Scarborough regarding the game but then seem to have taken it upon themselves to announce the fixture without a solid confirmation from the Lions.

The Reserves already have a full schedule of pre-season friendlies arranged  details of which will appear on the website as soon as they are confirmed.

In the meantime the First Team return to training this week in buoyant mood according to Manager Steve Kittrick. There should also be an addition to the first team squad  next week with the signing of a player from a Conference North club . Details will be released once the transfer has gone though with the FA.
Unibond Fixtures
Statement on the Unibond website indicates that the fixtures for the 2009-10 season will be released on Wednesday 15 July.
