The Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF), supporters of the Football Foundation and the largest funder of non-league football in the country, today announced a grant of £56,100 to Guiseley AFC.

This award will enable the club to develop a new 200-seat covered stand and undertake pitch irrigation work.

The project will enhance the supporters’ match-day experience, increase spectator comfort and enable the club to meet current Ground Grading criteria.

Funded with £6m p.a. from the Premier League, the FSIF is the country’s largest provider of grants towards projects that help improve the comfort and safety of lower league football grounds in both the professional and amateur game. The improvements range from new football stands and turnstiles to floodlighting and improved provision for disabled supporters.

Phil Rogerson, Finance Director at the club, said: “This grant will allow the club to continue with its ground development programme so that the progress in improving ground facilities matches that of the team as it progresses through the leagues.

“Without access to funding from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund a community-orientated local Charter Standard Community club such as Guiseley would find it impossible to progress and provide the level of family-orientated entertainment to which it aspires.”

Peter McCormick, Chairman of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund and a Trustee of the Football Foundation, said: “The project will enhance the viewing experience for supporters watching football at Nethermoor Park. It will further ensure that Guiseley AFC fulfil the required grading criteria to gain promotion to the Blue Square Premier Division.

“The FSIF is committed, with funding provided by the Premier League, to support clubs who are rising through the leagues to meet the demands of providing modern and comfortable stadia.”

St Francis 2000 v Guiseley Ladies 19/02/2012

Guiseley ladies captivated on a strong county cup performance midweek to take 3 valuable points away from home at close table rivals St Francis, Hartlepool.

The ladies took 11 players, Which included two players carrying heavy injuries from Tuesday nights fixture with Leeds City Vixens. The game kicked off with Guiseley facing the blinding sun and with a change of formation in play, Guiseley took into play what they do best with a passing formation and they very much took the game to the opposition breaking early on in the game with a sweet pass from stand in captain Lindsey Hopton to striker Caroline Hulme to take a deserved early goal.

Guiseley continued to take control of the game with strong defending from unsual centre back partnership Caroline Cropp ( usually centre midfield ) and Alarna Fuller ( usually left wing ). With some early one on one chances for St Francis stopped by goalkeeper Erin Boswell, Guiseley doubled their lead from a fantastic goal from Fuller which saw some great passing play and a smooth strike from outside the box to hit the top right hand corner!

St Francis continuted to fight back and got a goal back from a through ball and perfect finish again hitting the top right hand corner of the net, Boswell dived but couldnt reach the angle.

With Fuller stuggling with injury, Gusieley defenders had to stay strong to hold their lead with the Gusieley keeper making an amusing save out of her box which ended up with her sat with the ball inbetween her legs (arms in the air) with her right back smoothly taking control of the ball.

Half time 1-2 to Guiseley

The second half saw changes with Fuller going up front with striker Amy Parker dropping back into midfield, Lou Berry into centre back and Katie Jesson moving to right back to add to her ever lasting list of position’s played this season.

Play continued to be dominated by Guiseley with strong performances from Neely Murrell and Sophie Morley on the left side. Guiseley had chances to advance on their lead with chances from Caroline Hulme, Amy Parker and Sophie Morley. With good performances from Linsdey Hopton and Amy Parker in the middle and Abi Garland on the right wing, St Francis struggled to get into the game in the second half.

Player of the Match went to Alarna Fuller after scoring her first goal for the club since signing from Leeds United Ladies last season.

The Ladies are at Nethermoor Park Sunday 26th Feb and host Barnsley Ladies in the League Cup.

Guiseley marked their first league fixture since 28th January with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Hinckley United, thanks to a second-half strike from Simon Baldry.

Lions’ manager Steve Kittrick brought in Mark Bower to partner Danny Ellis at centre back, moving skipper Simon Ainge to right back. The trio, along with the ever-present Dave Merris, provided the foundation for a win that kept the Lions’ hunt for promotion firmly on the boil.

Simon Baldry (Picture by onematchimage.com)

Hinckley started the brighter, however, with lively forward Andre Gray finding himself through on goal only to blast over, while Danny Forrest and Danny Boshell both threatened for the visitors. As the first half went on, the Lions continued to press with a series of corners and a refused penalty shout.

A resilient Hinckley side had frustrated Gusieley in the opening 45 minutes but a half-time discussion with Kittrick obviously did the trick, with Simon Baldry netting in the 47th minute. Following a Guiseley attack, the ex-Huddersfield man lashed a drive past the hosts’ debutant ‘keeper Patrick Lane.

The remainder of the half would be an entertaining one, with Guiseley searching to kill the game off and Hinckley looking for a leveller. That leveller could, and should, have come for Hinckley shortly after the opener but a missed open goal from Gray put paid to that.

Guiseley, too, had a chance to add to their tally but James Walshaw saw his penalty saved by Lane after he himself had been felled in the box. A number of spurned half-chances from both sides were to follow, but the Lions held on for an important three points on a day when other promotion contenders slipped up.

Lions: Drench, Ainge, Merris, Toner, Ellis, Bower, Baldry (Senior), Boshell, Forrest, Walshaw (Ellington), Holdsworth.

Subs not used: Clarke, Burns, Giles.

Att - 469

Star man - Simon Baldry

Following three previous postponements the ladies were glad
to have this game given the go ahead following a pitch inspection. The ladies
faced local rivals Leeds City Vixens for the first time in their history. The
Vixens currently play two leagues above Guiseley Ladies in The FA Womens Premier
League Northern Division. It was always going to be tough game for the home
side but they had prepared well for the game. The ladies had a full strength
team and were up for the challenge as both teams have been struggling for form
in their respective leagues. The home side started the better and dominated
possession in a solid 4-1-4-1 formation. Caroline Hulme, who signed for the
ladies before Christmas, has injected pace and strength into the Guiseley
forward line. It was Hulmes’ perseverance that led to the home side getting the
opening goal. She found herself one-on-one with the Vixens’ ‘keeper, and coolly
placed the ball into the corner of the net. The home supporters turned out in
their numbers to watch a determined performance by the ladies. The Vixens
showed their class at times, and Guiseleys’ ‘keeper Erin Boswell made a couple
of instinctive saves to keep the home ahead. The ladies went 2-0 up on the 35th
minute when midfielder Lindsey Hopton struck a cross from the right into the
net. The ladies were looking good, but an innocent tackle from the Vixens
centre midfielder left Guiseley defender Alarna Fuller clutching her knee.
Fuller was substituted on the 40th minute, and manager Phil Riley
had to make a few changes to the formation as a result. The Vixens took
advantage of confusion within the Guiseley defence and they got a goal back
just before half-time.

The second half saw the ladies forced to go 4-4-2 as
centre midfielder Caroline Cropp had to be substituted at half-time with an
injured groin. The home side never really adjusted to the changes and the
Vixens scored an equalising goal 10 minutes into the second half. Guiseley were
on the defence for most of the second half, having one less player in midfield
allowed the Vixens to cut through often with ease. The Vixens scored a third
goal on the 75th Minute. A pin point ball played through the
Guiseley defence was met well by their inform striker, who put the ball in the
net beyond Boswell. The ladies put up a fight and battled well, Boswell made
some outstanding saves in the Guiseley goal. Caroline Cropp almost got an
equaliser for the home side on the 80th minute mark but the cross
bar got in the way. It was a nervy last 5 minutes, with the ladies pushing
forward to try and get the equaliser that would have taken the tie to
extra-time. The Vixens took advantage of Guiseleys’ attacking formation and
scored a fourth goal on the 90th minute mark. This put the tie to
bed but the ladies can be proud that they gave a very good account of their
selves against higher ranked opposition.

The Football Stadium Improvement Fund have confirmed that the club has been awarded a grant of £56,000 towards the cost of building a new stand.

The stand has to be in place by the end of March and it will provide an additional 200 covered seats to meet the eligibility requirements of promotion to the Blue Square Bet Premier. Construction work on the £122,000 stand is due to start on February 20th and it will enable the club to meet the deadline imposed by the Football Conference. A temporary 200-seat stand was installed last season to allow the club to feature in the promotion play-offs, but a change in the rules this season means that all clubs have to have permanent covered seating.

Former chairman Phil Rogerson, who submitted the funding application, said: “This is great news for the club and means that we can meet the deadline set down by the Conference. We had to submit our application by January 25th so we are thrilled to have had such a speedy response.”

The new stand will be sited next to the main stand towards the Railway End of the Nethermoor ground and will be of a similar design to the existing main stand. It is the first of a raft of ground improvements that will need to be undertaken in the summer to meet the exacting requirements of the Blue Square Bet Premier League should the Lions realise their promotion ambitions this season.
